Careers in Culture
The culture sector provides experiences and services that enhance the quality of life. In the future, people competent in the culture sector will be needed to work in the continuously changing media, as well as in more traditional channels. There are six upper secondary qualifications and a total of nine study programmes in the culture sector. The qualifications are three-year qualifications with a scope of 120 credits (one credit is equivalent to 40 hours of a student's work) and they provide general eligibility for further study. Vocational Qualification in Crafts and Design People in the crafts and design field and produce aesthetic and visual products for customers for interior design, clothing and the living environment. Products are often made in small series from different materials and using different craft techniques. The field also involves renovation and restoration of built and unbuilt environments. As well as manual skills, the field's occupations require creativity, problem-solving skills and the ability to structure the visual environment. Important aspects of the activities include economy, productivity and customer focus. Vocational Qualification in Audiovisual Communication This field involves production of .films and video, radio and TV programmes. Technological developments have resulted in new media and associated products: interactive software and game products, websites and mobile services. The field needs professionals from all-rounders to experts in specific areas of information technology. Vocational Qualification in Visual Expression Visual expression is an important part of visual communication, which can be seen in the environment as aesthetic and creative activities. Competence areas in visual expression include graphic communication, visual and media arts and photography. Studies in visual and media arts include the basics of painting, sculpture, graphic arts, art photography and new visual and media arts. Visual communication activities are guided by respect for and promotion of visual culture and aesthetics. Vocational Qualification in Dance A dancer's work combines creative intellectual and skilful physical processes. The prerequisite for high-quality vocational competence is technical skill combined with interpretation and expression. A dancer's tasks include traditional repertoire and modern choreographies from different areas of dance. The work involves performance and practice as part of a group as well as interaction with the audience. Vocational Qualification in Music Music professionals often started to learn music when they were children. It requires continuous practice and responsibility to maintain skills and capabilities. The field's quality and skills requirements are growing and the job descriptions of professionals are diversifying. Vocational Qualification in Circus The study programme in circus includes instruction in theatre, dance and circus arts. The training is demanding both mentally and physically, so one must be in a good condition. The studies emphasize the combination of various art forms into one whole i.e. the new circus. The studies comprise among other things acrobatics, dramatic art, dance and circus equipment. | |
