Careers in Humanities and Education The Humanities and Education field involves diverse instruction for people of different ages and guidance as they grow. Those who have completed an upper secondary vocational qualification in the field work for local authorities, parishes, various institutions, associations, third-sector and other organisations as well as schools and other educational institutions. Work carried out in the field involves community based instruction, which aims to promote the growth of individuals of different ages and help them recognise their resources, strengthen their identities and develop their abilities to manage their own lives. Vocational Qualification in Sign Language Instruction Sign Language Instructors are workers who are proficient in sign language and who provide instruction and assistance for the sign language community and for people using sign language to communicate. Sign Language Instructors need particularly extensive communication skills. In addition, demand for knowledge of and competence in health care will increase, in particular within elderly care and among clients with multiple disabilities. Vocational Qualification in Child Care and Education and Family Welfare Those who have completed the qualification work with children and their families in different sectors of society and together with other people involved in educational work. Working in the field requires interest in human growth and development, interaction and other social skills, methodological competence and capability for motivation and empathy. It is essential to be able to function with individuals, groups and networks alike. Instruction skills are also required. Vocational Qualification in Youth and Leisure Instruction Youth and Leisure Instructors instruct children, young people and adults in voluntary educational and leisure activities stemming from their own starting points and plan, implement and create opportunities for such activities. The work is carried out in co-operation networks in multidisciplinary settings. Specialised competence in youth instruction includes methodological instruction skills (cultural, physical education and adventure instruction; camping, outing and recreational activities) as well as development of young people's living conditions and environments. Priorities of the work include social empowerment, multicultural youth work and civic activities. Working in the field requires interest in human growth and development, interaction and other social skills, methodological competence and capability for motivation and empathy.
