Viikki Teacher Training School of Helsinki University is one of the oldest schools in Finland and the first Finnish-speaking school for girls. Since 1924 it has been training future teachers. In 1974 it became part of the teacher training unit of the Department of Education of the University of Helsinki, and along with that role, the school has also provided further education for in-service teachers.

The school consists of the 10-year comprehensive school (ages 6 to 15), including pre-school, primary school and lower secondary school levels, and the upper secondary school. Pupils (c. 940), teachers (c. 110) and student teachers (c. 250) from the pre-school level to the upper secondary school level operate in the same school building.

The educational philosophy of the school is to teach its students skills and knowledge which are needed in the future. The school participates in many local, national and international projects.

The Second St. Petersburg Gymnasium, Admiralteysky District http://www.2spbg.ru/

The Second St. Petersburg Gymnasium is one of the oldest schools of the city. It was founded as a school for the boys from the aristocratic families in 1805 and it has become one of the prestigious educational establishments at present. In 1905 it was named after the Russian tsar Alexander I.

Old photos and documents have been assiduously collected and kept in the school’s museum. Although the school continues to develop rapidly and now has a modern image, old photos, books and newsreels are on display, helping to reconstruct the events of the past, from the very beginning of the school’s history.

1200 students from 6 to 17 come to the Gymnasium in the morning to receive their classes in different subjects. 100 teachers help them get knowledge. The teachers constantly try to involve students in various projects in order to stimulate the pupils’ interest in school subjects, to develop their skills, and to encourage talented children.
