Iron
There are two kinds of irons: thermostatic irons and steam irons.
- A thermostatic
iron has a continuous temperature control
(60–230° C) and a thermostat.
- In
addition to these, a steam iron has also an adjustable steam control.
Choosing a thermostatic
iron |
|
- shape of the iron: low, tapering,
bevelled off tip
- handle: smooth, proper size,
gets narrower towards the tip, good grip for both hands, must
not become hot.
- balance of the iron: the iron
must stand steadily on its heel rest also on a soft surface
- material and glide of the soleplate:
thermal conductivity, smooth gliding on the fabric, cleaning
properties
- cord: length of the cord at least
2 metres, attached behind the handle or in the centre of the
iron, the joint is protected with elastic rubber, i.e. the
cord must not be in the way when ironing.
- temperature control: clear and
easy to use, the text in your language and with international
symbols, adjustable also during ironing
- temperatures correspond to the
symbols: different textiles with different ironing temperatures
- evenness of the temperature on
the soleplate: is the iron immediately ready for ironing, or
is the initial rise of temperature very sharp? How long does
it take to create an even temperature?
- indicator light: easier to see
when the iron is ready.
